Vision Talks — A Series of Talks About Grace’s Vision
In 2023, Grace celebrated its thirteenth anniversary as a particularized church. We also began a series of conversations about our vision for the future. From the beginning, Grace has embraced the goal of “letting good things run wild,” and now we have a lot of good things to steward with more on the horizon. To help us think about what each of us is called to contribute to this process, Pastor Mark began this ongoing dialogue. As more conversation happens, we will keep this page updated:
The sixth Vision Talk is a brief remembrance of Rev. Tim Keller, whose ministry has had a profound impact on so many churches, including ours. As Pastor Mark notes, Grace wants to be faithful to the example that he set of putting Christ before everything, including reputation. (For more on Keller’s influence on Grace, listen to this episode of The Commentary.)
The fifth Vision Talk is about the importance of what we call “historic” Christianity. As Pastor Mark explains, our object is the retrieval of biblical faith without repristination — i.e., we want a faith recognizable to the believers who went before us, even though we live it out in the modern world.
In the fourth of our Vision Talks, Pastor Mark explains that it isn’t enough for us to proclaim a theology of grace. We must also create a culture of grace. Since culture untended has a propensity toward moralism, a culture of grace won’t just happen; instead, it has to be cultivated.
In the third talk, Pastor Mark unpacks some key concepts from our mission statement: (1) longing, (2) grace-depth-community, and (3) seeking-finding-sharing.
In the second talk, we turn to a practical consideration — the ideal size of the church — to address one of the core tenets of our vision, church planting.
In the first talk, Pastor Mark discusses the primary mission of Grace, one that’s sometimes hidden in plain sight: worship.
